| Basal squamules inconspicuous, small, 2–4 mm long, 1–2 mm diam., irregularly cuneate or lobed with lobes crenate or slightly incised. Podetia growing from basal squamules, 1.5–6 cm tall, simple, scyphiferous, greyish green; cortex smooth, becoming rough in older specimens, continuous or areolate, esorediate; scyphi broad, 3–6 mm diam., from these central or occasionally marginal scyphi proliferate, forming up to five tiers, rarely lacking central scyphi; margins of scyphi entire or with small squamules, remainder of podetia rarely squamulose. Apothecia on margins of scyphi, 0.5–2 mm diam., convex, sessile or pedicellate, brown or reddish brown. CHEMISTRY: K-, KC-, P+ red. Fumarprotocetraric (major) and protocetraric (trace) acids. | ||
| This cosmopolitan species occurs in all States and the A.C.T., and also on Macquarie Is.; grows on soil amongst moss or on rock. | ||
